Studies On Jingdezhen Greenish White Porcelain Of Song Dynasty

3500 years ago in the Shang dynasty, primitive porcelain emerged in China. In the long days, celadon porcelain production has always been the mainstream in porcelain production industry. In Tang Dynasty, due to the rapid development of white porcelain, a north south blue and white situation has been formed. In Song Dynasty, the porcelain craft got into its mature stage. During this period of time, five famous kilns and eight kilns series were created and formed. Among them, the plainer and kilns in Jingdezhen are the most famous. The Greenish white porcelain won its great fame for its excellent texture, fine craft, transparence and color. It is highly appreciated by people since its first generation. They won people's love from all sectors. After it was first produced, it was imitated by kilns all around. The Greenish white porcelain was well known in the country which also gives great impact to the future generations.The present paper is a comprehensive and multi-angle study of the source, origin and features of Jingdezhen Greenish white porcelain in Song Dynasty. This thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter one is the introduction which is made up of three parts: a general introduction to Greenish white porcelain; the previous studies on Greenish white porcelain and their characteristics; research questions are also put forward in this part. Firstly, the author gives a brief review of the development, emergence and position of Greenish white porcelain in China. Then she also gives a short introduction to the situation, characteristics, research methods and research finds of Jingdezhen Greenish white porcelain. Finally, in this chapter the research purpose and significance are also stated.Chapter two is the study of the history of Greenish white porcelain and how it got its present name. This chapter is comprised of four parts: Greenish white porcelain and Greenish white porcelain in Song Dynasty; the distinction of Greenish white porcelain in"Zhugezhi"; Greenish white porcelain in Yuan and Ming Dynasty; Greenish white porcelain and Shadowy blue ware. Firstly a comparison of Greenish white porcelain and other porcelains is conducted and a brief introduction of the development of Greenish white porcelain in Song Dynasty is given. Then a discussion of the"Greenish white porcelain"in"Zhugezhi"is carried out qualitatively. Subsequently the development of Greenish white porcelain in Yuan Dynasty and Shadowy blue ware in Ming Dynasty are stated. Finally, the relations between Greenish white porcelain and Shadowy blue ware are explored.Chapter three stated the rise of Jingdezhen Greenish white porcelain. It is made up of three parts: the dispute of the origin of Greenish white porcelain; the rise of Jingdezhen Greenish white porcelain; the history of porcelain making. Firstly, the traditional views on the Greenish white porcelain making are given, and the origin of Greenish white porcelain which is in conflict with the traditional views are put forward pointing out that the early Greenish white porcelain are unearthed in Henan, Anhui, Hubei. The study continues to analyze the reasons for the rising of Jingdezhen Greenish white porcelain. Finally by reviewing the history of porcelain burning in Jingdezhen, the human factors for the emerging and remarkable achievements of Greenish white porcelain are revealed.Chapter four is the study of the features and characteristics of Jingdezhen Greenish white porcelain. Five aspects are to be explored in this chapter: the unearthed and record of Greenish white porcelain; the features and characteristics of Greenish white porcelain; the decorative patterns of Greenish white porcelain; the decoration method of Song Jingdezhen Greenish white porcelain and burning method of it. Firstly, the author introduced the documentary record, archaeological excavations and the foreign unearthed Qing Jingdezhen porcelain in Song Dynasty. Then an analysis of the patterns and the bodies and glazes of Song Dynasty Jingdezhen Greenish white porcelain is carried out, which concerns with three categories of daily appliances, art and religion furnishings. The third part of this chapter discusses the main Song Dynasty Jingdezhen blue white porcelain decorative patterns, including plants, animals, figures and other landscape patterns; The fourth part gives an introduction to the commonly used decoration techniques of Jingdezhen Greenish white porcelain. The fifth part stated the development of the burning and equipping technology of Jingdezhen Greenish white porcelain.Chapter five is the Conclusion. This chapter includes three parts: the summary of the entire thesis; the review of the important points of view; and the future studies of the present research. Firstly, the author reiterates the purpose of this study and sums up the major points in each chapter. Then the author stated the difficulties encountered in the study, hoping that future research can expand and deepen the present one. The stud concludes with presenting the related issues concerning with the present research.
