Finance is the center of modem economy. Due to the disastrous consequences caused by the financial crisis which had happened in southeast Asia, China抯 theoretical circle and banks began to draw great attention to the financial risk. Having learnt lessons from the history and the neighbouring countries, they have developed such a common idea that the financial risk should be prevented and eliminated on time. Urban commercial banks, as a result of our country抯 financial system reform, have been confronted with the increased bad loans and credit risk which stop the banks from developing healthily. If correct management policies, careful sloution and prevention of economic problems should not be carried out, a systematic or regional financial crisis would not be avoided. Therefore, it has become a significant task to understand and grasp the implications and characteristics of the credit risk of urban commercial banks, to correctly analyze the present situation and the reasons of the credit risk, to adopt effective management policies and to control and get rid of the credit risk, for the theoretical circle and workers in urban commercial banks. Guided by Marxist economic theory and banking credit theory, the essay makes use of the latest fruits in the fields of commercial bank risk management, modem property right theory and market economics to conduct a discussion of the implications, features and forms of the credit risk. It also makes an analysis of the current situation of China抯 urban commercial banks and the reasons and features of the credit risk based upon the detailed and true facts and data. Finally, an exploration has been made into the management policies for the credit risk of these banks in combination of the reality in present China.
