This article is a stage achievement of an on-going research project entitled "Management Consulting in China:A Strategy for Development" and funded by the Natural Science foundation of China (NSFC)c In applying the main theoretical guidelines of the project,the author empirically investigated and evaluated,with a comparative perspective and through measures of literature survey,interview and case study,the scientifec knowledge base and knowledge acquiring system of the management consulting profession under the Chinese context,with main focuses being put on 4 dimensions:the existing literature on consulting and management consulting,training programs offered by professional organizations,programs of on-the-post training,and the university-based education. On this basis,the author summarizes several existing problems and constraints and relates them to the strategies of developing management consulting in China.
