Core competences exist in any organization that possesses strategic advantages by which the organization beats its adversaries. So,commercial bank can make no exceptions. Many previous documents about commercial bank's competition only cast a superficial glance at the problem, and don't research deep into its essence——the match of core competences. The theoretical innovation of this article is it elevates the commercial bank's competition to the height of core competences. The construction of the core competences which based on the bank's value chain forms the theoretical foundation of the article.As to domestic and foreign commercial bank, the article attentively analyzes their competitive advantages and disadvantages, and from which respectively compares their core competences with one another. The article holds that the foreign commercial bank's core competences stems from the differential of integrating competence of the value chain. Similarly, the domestic commercial bank's core competences stems from the differential of resource competence of its value chain, namely so-called native advantages. However, our domestic commercial bank's core competence is far from perfect so that the author reestablishes its cultivating model through the improved value chain to accept foreign bank's challenges. In the end, the article puts forward the corresponding strategic measures for our domestic commercial bank to foster the core competence.
