Enjoying an outstanding high-speed of expansion in past a few years, the Electronic &Information Industry has been developed into the largest pillar industry of China. On one hand, the Electronic & Information Enterprises are flourishing and hence their foreign direct investment is gradually increasing. However, on the other hand, foreign direct investment related studies could be hardly found in the nation. No research has been previously been done focusing on the outward investment behaviors of the electronic and information enterprises. There is an urgent demand for both the public and the private sectors to understand the current situation, characteristics and trends of the outward direct investment made by the Electronic Information Industry, so to implement necessary measures to enhance the outward direct investment.Based on the case studies, this article analyses the motivations, investment modes as well as the location of the current direct investment made by the Chinese Electronic & Information Enterprises. SWOT analysis was deployed to diagnose the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and the threats of the Electronic & Information Industry and the companies in the sector. In the end, constructive suggestions are made on how to strengthen the direct investment of the Electronic & Information Industry from both macro and micro prospective.The conclusion and suggestions are built on a solid foundation since all the analysis is based on market research. Data used in this article is also the most up-to-date, which reflects the recent position of the sector and the real situation of the outward direct investment. This article verifies that a company Ds foreign investment has no distinct correlation with its scale but has a high correlation with its R&D intensity, which is a finding never before raised. Therefore, Chinese Electronic & Information Enterprises should endeavor to increase investment in research and development.
