Sustainable Development Strategy For Highway Transportation In China

The relation between environment and development is an important problem concerned by current international society. Transportation is one of the fundamental industries of Chinese national economy. To implement the sustainable development of national economy, we must develop transportation energetically. Since the development of transportation will make great effect on the protection of resources and environment, it should assort with the environment protection and resource utilization. To realize the Sustainable development of highway transportation, we should completely analyze the current situation, further demand and restrict factors of highway transportation, and establish scientific development strategy and plan according to the requirements of Sustainable development.This paper first introduces the process of the "Sustainable development " concept forming in international society and analyzes the relation between the Sustainable development and the highway transportation, then discusses the concepts of Sustainable development of highway transportation, and gives out the strategic objectives, guidelines and approaches of highway transportation in China at the beginning of 21st century on the base of the analysis of the current situation, resource restriction, environment restriction and safety requirement of highway transportation development.
