The Study On The Middle Stratum In Contemporary China

Regarding historical materialism as guideline, combining the analytical method of the interests with analytical method of system, the thesis analyses the theoretical foundation that should be constructed in the study on the middle stratum in contemporary China, the dimensions dividing the middle stratum in contemporary China and the production, development, forming and function of the stratum. On this basis, the thesis probes into the goal and social conditions that our country ought to establish in the course of cultivating middle stratum. The thesis has five parts in all.The first part of the thesis probes into the theoretical foundation of the stratum while studying. According to the actual conditions in our country at present, at first, the part analyses the social stratification theory of functionalism and the social stratification theory of conflict critically, the social stratification theory represented by Marx's class theory and represented by Webber's polyhydric social stratification theory in the conflict theory especially, then optimize and form the theoretical foundation suitable to analyze the middle stratum in contemporary China: 1,on the normal form of the theory, combine the function theory and conflict theory together; 2,choose the polyhydric structure mode of stratum; 3,insist the dividing dimensions of polyhydric social strata. Secondly, the part defines some concepts, such as class, stratum, intermediate stratum, middle stratum, middle class, social resource, etc. The analysis on the theoretical foundation, is not only the theoretical foundation on which the thesis launches exposition further, but to us used to the class theory of Marxism, the essential content of the study.The second part of the thesis is on the definition of the middle stratum in contemporary China. People's understanding to our country's middle stratum has appeared deviation. People's understanding means only the upper level of the stratum in our country. In view of this, after analyzing the objective attributes of the middle stratum in modern society, the part probes into thedimensions dividing scientifically the middle stratum in our country: 1,occuping social resources medium; 2, the way of social resource acquisition based on market mechanism; 3,and, occupation is not enough to be the dimension to divide the middle stratum in our country at the present stage; on this basis, the part defines the middle stratum in our country: the social intermediate stratum, which based on market mechanism occupies social resource. And, according to the job power, working style, consuming and life style, etc. the part offers the operation index weighing whether to be the middle stratum.The third part of the thesis analyses the production, development and forming of the middle stratum in contemporary China. The production of middle stratum needs objective social conditions. The social conditions, through which our country's middle stratum produce, are contained in modernization drive in kinds of fields. First of all, middle stratum form in the course when the secondary industry turns to the tertiary industry generally. After the foundation of the State, reform and opening-up later especially, the upgrading of industrial structure supplied the material base for the production of the middle stratum in our country. And, middle stratum has a strong profession character. Upgrading of industrial structure accelerated modern social professional process, which supplies the opportunity for some social member to promote their strata status. Secondly, market mechanism is the disposing way of means of production based on law of value, but is a social resource distribution way based on the principle of efficiency and contributing too. The gradual forming of market mechanism is the social inherent development mechanism of the middle stratum in our country.
