| The geographical indication is nowadays an intellectual property right which attracts growing attention of the international community. China's entry into the WTO is not only an opportunity but a challenge as well. Clearly including the geographical indication into the legal protection range is the necessary practice of China's obligations and commitments after entering the WTO, and also a strategic step for China to participate in the world economic globalization, fully utilize the abundant historical and cultural heritage, create world-famous product brands, improve the competitive abilities of its geographical indication products, especially the agricultural, sideline and local products to fully display their huge economic benefits. The author of this paper tries to conduct a comparative study and exploration through the concepts, characteristics, and the domestic and international protection modes, attempting to present a personal opinion for the perfection of geographical indication protection system. |
