| On the one hand, the related principle of WTO assure that the economy and trade of China will be more blended into the system of integrative global economy. On the other hand, because a lot of foreign investors will benefit from national treatment gradually, it surely will bring a certain impact on our own corporations.After 14 years' negotiation and consultation with other countries, the entry of China into the World Trade Organization becomes true. The entry into WTO will bring about a distinguished influence on the economy life of China because it is the second round of opening compared with the first one called Reform and Opening in the end of the 1970's. Ocean shipping industry plays an important role in the international trade and transportation. About 90% transportation of import and export cargos (calculated by tonnage) is performed by ocean shipping. Since the entry of China into WTO, the shipping companies of China have been facing with both opportunities and challenges.How to improve China's policies and laws on international shipping in order to meet the regulations of WTO and the trend of developing socialistic market economy of China? How to prevent Chinese shipping companies from being defeated by foreign shipping groups without violating the regulation of WTO? All these issues are the hot topics in the circle. By elaborating the concepts, rules, regulations and the co-relation thereof of General Agreement on Tariff and Trade and WTO, this thesis, draws out the frame of shipping policies and laws concluded in the said regulations, systematically studies current shipping policy of China and the present situation of opening, detailedly analyzes the gap between Chinese policies and that of the developed countries, points out the new situation and key problems which Chinese shipping industry will be facing, puts out some views, ideas and constructive proposals of how to re-adjust Chinese shipping policies and laws, outlines a basic framework for the establishment of Chinese international shipping system and itslegislation.In this situation, our government and domestic shipping companies have to develop new ideas, fully analyze our advantages and our disadvantages. With fully understanding that our advantages are still limited, we should set up relevant rules and laws, and improve our ability in global economy competition.
