E-government has been a focus of attention in both the domestic and the international academic circles. A proposal was put forward in the report made by the Thirteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China that e-government should be practiced to deepen the reformation in government administrative system, which intensified this focus. Through a discussion on e-government and its application across the nation, the weaknesses and defects in Chinese government administration, the practice of e-government as a revolution in Chinese government administration and the advancement of the e-government project in China, this thesis states that to carry out e-government does not simply mean to introduce the electronic means into the present government administration; instead, it means to overcome the weaknesses and defects in the present government administration so as to raise the administrative efficiency by using the advanced productive force; it is an effective way to form an administrative system which is standardized in behavior, harmonious in operation, just and transparent in execution, honest and efficient in performing duties; it is an important transformation in government administrative methods and system.
