Situated in the heartland of Eurasia Continent, Central Asia is a region that can exert an influence on world situation. Besides, Central Asia has huge reserves of oil and gas. After the crash of Soviet Union, great changes have taken place in the geo-politics of Central Asia. To realize the goal of world hegemony, the United States formulated its own policy in Central Asia. To study the US policy in Central Asia is of great realistic and theoretical significance for tracing the trend of US hegemonism and for China's policy-decision concerning national defense and economic development. The author of this article, with a lot of first-hand materials in English and with Marxism as the guide, made a study on US policy in Central Asia before and after September 11 by employing the methods of comparison and induction. In this article, the author explored the background in which US policy towards Central Asia was formulated, US strategic interests in Central Asia, the formation and evolution of US policy in Central Asia, means to materialize the policy and effects on Central Asia and China resulting from the implementation of the policy. At the end, the author suggested concrete measures for China to take.
