As to the traditional opinion, it seems that the larger an enterprise grows, the more competitive it gets. That the Fortunes' 500 enterprises with the utmost sales revenue are always spoken of as the "World 500 Most Competitive Ones" is a mirror of such view. Later, people's cognition moves forward and they tend to regard "the 500 enterprises" as "the Biggest Ones" instead of "the Most Competitive Ones", but we can make no logical explanation for the functional relation between "Bigness" and "Competitiveness" up to the present.The paper provides us with a new angle to explain this perplexity by the measuring research and analysis on the competitive capacity of China's automobile enterprises.The measuring research is carried on with drawing lessons from the research results already achieved at home and abroad first. We make analysis on the functional mechanism of competitive capacity and put forward the formula model to calculate it. With consideration of the actual situation and characters in the automobile enterprises, we not only setup an evaluation index system through expert investigation, the Synthetic Evaluation Index Method and the Analytical Hierarchy Process(AHP) Method etc. but also make comprehensive evaluation and analysis on the resources capacity, management capacity competitive capacity of China's automobile industry by referring to the already existed evaluation indexes. Finally, in accordance with the paper's conclusion and actual condition in the FAW Group Co., we make suggestion on how to promote an enterprise's competitive capacity.The paper consists of seven parts and Chapter Ⅰcomes as its preamble, which clarifies the meaning of such a research —— To find the internal functional mechanism that determines the enterprise competitive capacity and make evaluation on the fast developed China's automobile enterprises according to the research result. Then we make introduction on the research's present condition and trend, not only the World Economic Forum (WEF) and Swiss Institute of Management & Development (IMD)'s theory, but also Michael Bert's National Diamond Theory and Jin Bei's International Competitive Capacity Analysis Framework for Industrial Goods are introduced. On the basis of the foregoing theory, we can see its exploratory meaning to evaluate the competitive capacity of China's automobile industry.Chapter Ⅱis our research on the functional mechanism of competitive capacity, the functional relation between enterprise management and controllable resources. We point out that the competitive capacity is a functional relation and operational law internally, which results in expansion, optimization, contraction and disappearance of resources. Diagrammatical representation is used to show the functional relation between resources capacity, management capacity, competitive capacity and management effect. Finally, the derivation formula to calculate competitive capacity is given, which lays a theoretical foundation for the next evaluation research.
