Research Of Business Method Patent In The Banking

After china joining in the WTO, finance industry will open to the outside world completely. It is obvious that the competitions between Chinese banks and overseas banks will be fierce. One of the magic weapons for overseas banks is to provide mature financial innovative products. Business method patent is the best way to protect financial innovative products. It is the kind patent that connects the rules of the general business and management to the information network technologies and software and hardware of computers.The research on the patent of financial business method patent is a prevailing topic in China. Most of current researches focus on the law. In this paper, I mainly focus our research on information technology of banking. The paper probes for the characteristics and development trends of financial business method patent through investigating the status of the financial business method in some countries, researching deep the technologies of the financial business method patent and analyzing concretely several typical business method patents. Then the paper advises the banking how to research and development the business method patent.The main work of the paper is as follows:Firstly through the statistics and analysis of the data from the websites of the authoritative intellectual property rights organizations, the paper makes the related people in the banking to know the status and gap of the financial business method patent between China and other countries and to realize the importance of protecting the financial business method patent. Secondly, I focus research objects on Citibank's business method patents in USA and abstract the characteristic of the patent of financial business method macroscopically and microcosmically. Thirdly, through analyzing concretely several typical business method patents, I abstract the technical characteristics such as highly safety, service complexity, system interaction, muti-channel conformity, standardization, advanced database technology and analytical customer relationship management applications. Finally, I bring forward several measures to research and develop financial business method patent for Chinese national banking.
