Material procurement plays an important role in the Supply Chain of modern companies. Bidding, as an effective way of procurement, has been applied widely. However, because of both institutional and operational problems, bidding has some faults such as long bidding cycle and fussy documents, additional fee, and malpractice. Based on the present status of bidding, the purpose of this thesis is to design and construct a Internet-based, opened online bidding system, which will help the buyers, providers and bidding agencies to organize their bidding activities.The thesis was written on the basis of researching on the bidding and reverse auction and writer's personal experience in the procedure of the system designing and developing. The thesis consists of two main parts, the first describes and concludes the common processes and rules of bidding and reverse auction, and researches the researching status on these fields both in outside and inside China; the second part of the thesis analyses the system requirement according to which the writer constructed the business model with the work flow modeling method, and then the thesis describes the system implementing process briefly. Additionally, the thesis concludes the writers experience from the project, and gives some advice of future work.The direct achievement of this thesis is the successful construction of the online bidding system with the advanced reverse auction technology. Moreover, the thesis proves the significance of this role-based, process-driven modeling method to the business system.
