Definition Of Knowledge Work And The Elementary Study On The Characteristical Notation Of Its Productivity

Knowledge work productivity, which was regarded as the biggest challenge in the 21st century by Peter ? Drucker, has increasingly become the core of management research areas. Studying on the definition of knowledge work definition and the evaluation of knowledge work productivity helps to fully understand knowledge work productivity, and plays an important role on theory and reality. On the basis of "knowledge work definition", this paper defined the meaning of knowledge work productivity and set it as a new framework. Under the framework, this paper established a specified model out of a general model to evaluate knowledge work productivity. Later case study has approved the feasibility of the model's purpose. There are many research achievements and innovations in the paper:1. Combined with literatures home an abroad in the area of knowledge work definition, this paper agrees with the idea of "all work are knowledge work", and puts forward that the boundary of knowledge work and non-knowledge work in the past has been transferred into the high knowledge content work and the low knowledge content work. Therefore, defining knowledge work is to define the knowledge content of each work.2. Analyzing the knowledge content from the static and the dynamic way, this paper raises an opinion that knowledge content of knowledge work is a continuum. In order to define the knowledge content of each work, a related evaluation system should be established.3. Making use of job analysis, this paper has abstract an index system that can reflect the knowledge characteristics and knowledge content of jobs. This is a quantitative way to classify the knowledge content. Statistical analysisapproved its feasibility.4. Based on knowledge work definition, this paper defines the content of knowledge work productivity. Studying knowledge work productivity is to study knowledge work with different knowledge content, which is set as the basic framework of the paper. I think, the definition will not affect any current achievements in productivity research to apply in the paper. Here I just suggest a new idea to notate the knowledge work productivity.5. This paper then uses the way of "decomposing", and established a general model with the core of outputs and inputs to evaluate knowledge work productivity. A specialized model is also set up out of the general model and is used to analyze different types of jobs. And a later case study approves the feasibility of the model.
