Agricultural Trade Between Cross-Strait

Chinese Mainland and Chinese Taiwan, which have the same character and origin, locatied between both sides of Taiwan Strait, have had communication in trade and culture long. Since 1979, with the implementation of active and positive policies toward Chinese Taiwan, trade relationship which had been broken for a few years between corss-strait, has been reinstated and developed remarkably. Agricultural products of both sides are reciprocal in not only products themselves but industrial chains; so if both sides cooperate in agriculture and carry on trade with principle of comparative advantage, both sides will get benefits. Therefore, it is significance in theory and practice to undertake research on respective comparative advantage of agricultural products, the scope of products Chinese Mainland export to Taiwan in coming trade and facors which have effect on export from Chinese Mainland to Chinese Taiwan.The thesis mainly concerns about agricultural trade of both sides from the angle of comparative advantage. Firstly, agricultural development and present conditions of Taiwan,agricultural trade relationship,computation and comparison with respective comparative advantage of agricultural products of both sides of Taiwan striait and agricultural communication and cooperation are summed up, which are main content of further research; then on the basis of cooridinaton of substantive trade data, analyzes general and structureal character of agricultural trade; after that, with CMS model ,make analysis on changing law of comparative advantage, in order that have an idea of which kinds of products are advantaged in each side and factors which have decisive effect on present conditions of respective comparative advantage; since there is considerable difference in statistic caliber and difficulty in data accumulation in Taiwan, it is not easy to compare their comparative advantage of key products ; finally, make analysis on factors which possibly have negative influence on exportation from Chinese Mainland to Taiwan,from the angle of import policies of Taiwan, consumer character, trade dispute,etc,which could provide idea that there will be stable and well-ordered agricultural trade between cross-strait.Result indicats that agricultural products of Chinese Mainland are far more competitive, compared to that of Chinese Taiwan. Presently, products Chinese Mainland export to Chinese Taiwan are mainly foodstuff such as vegetable, fruit, livestock and fishery products. Although there is steady growing in quantity of exportation, it is still difficut to export to Chinese Taiwan in a large scale thanks to import barriers.Additionally, trade dispute will prevent export to Taiwan substantively,so measures should be taken like seting up well-order agricultural trade, cooperating in quarantine with Taiwan and developing "interest group" supporting trade between cross-strait.
