Citizenship Under Republicanism

Republicanism thinks that the purpose of active political participation of citizens is to achieve common good. In the republican theory , the good is the priority of civil rights, so citizens should actively promote and realize the common good.Republican scholars believe that the republic is he first and most basic common good. Because the republic is so important that the patriotism has become the primary virtues of citizens. The patriotism of republicanism is different of the nationalism, it thinks the citizen should love the liberal republic. Citizens should strive to safeguard national independence and freedom from tyranny of the dictatorship in order to achieve the freedom of the republic. Citizens to be able to achieve the requirements of republican citizenship, need to have political rights, and certain property and civic virtue. The state should implement the republican system and provide property protection and create civic virtue to achieve the requirements of republican citizenship. Republican institution appears to prevent autocratic concentration of power to protect civil liberties and the rights of political participation.
