In the upsurge of focus on sustainable development,sustainable tourism has also been the hotspot for the researchers from various fields. The real ecotounsm is sustainable. However ,all sustainable tourism products are not ecotounsm . Besides the general rules of sustainable development, sustainable urban tourism has special meanings: the diversity of tourism resources and the inhovativeness of products ,the close relationship with the urban economic-social development and the inadaptability of carrying capacity for inspecting the sustainable urban tourism.The same as sustainable development theory, sustainable tourism also ranks development in the first place. The key to sustainable development is the scientific and reasonable tourism and planning ,in which tourism product is the core of planning. As a result strategic choice for tourism product is the essential part for the sustainable urban tourism.Due to the special rules for sustainable urban tourism ,traditional ecotourism product is not the mainstream for most comprehensive tourism cities . Based on the application of tourism product portfolio strategy, this thesis studies the strategic choice for tourism product and argues the theoretical and practical significance of strategic choice for tourism product which advances the study of urban sustainable development. The significance includes three points : First .development is foremost for sustainable development; Second ,it lays emphasis to the core of tourism planning - product-developing ;Third, it is conducive to analyzing the advantages and disadvantages for regional sustainable tourism development according to local conditions .According to the analyses of the status quo- traditional tourism resources are inferior to top cities and business (including MICE) tourism products are the main driving force for sustainable tourism development in Wuhan ,this thesis putsforward the tourism product portfolio strategy for Wuhan - magnifying and upgrading business (including MICE) tourism products and recreational and holiday-making tourism products, while controlling and pecfecting natural resource -oriented products. Big efforts to develop MICE tourism has three kinds of effects :As for economic sustainability ,it will upgrade the tourism industry and advance the economic growth for the city ;As for social sustainability ,it will beautify the public image of the city ;As for ecological sustainability ,it will relatively reduce the pressure on natural environment compared wirh the natural resource-oriented products . Following the SWOT analysis of Wuhan MICE tourism , some countermeasures are set forwards.
