| The ownership structure is an important factor to judge whether the banking system in a country is good or not. In recent years, some of Chinese joint-stock commercial banks remain the unreasonable ownership structure, which result in the deep-seated limitation in corporate governance. Nowadays, many banks are being reformed in China, and the capital market is being developed. So it's very significant to study the ownership structure of commercial banks. The Chinese joint-stock commercial banks are investigated especially in this thesis. On the basis of the general theory about corporate ownership structure in chapter 2, the content in chapter 3 and 4 is part and parcel in thesis. The content in chapter 3 includes the summarization of joint-stock commercial banks' history, existing modes, and influence factors. And the content in chapter 4 is the demonstration on relationship between ownership structure and banks' performance, in view of ownership concentration and structure of the capital stock. Two conclusions could be drawn. (l)In view of ownership concentration, the proportions of the largest shareholder and of non-holding shareholders have nonlinear correlativity with banks' performance respectively. And if non-performing loans and total assets scale are taken into account, two proportions will have negative effects on banks' performance; (2) In view of structure of the capital stock, the banks' performance will be better along with the rise of corporate shares' proportion and the decline of negotiable shares' proportion. And if the proportion of government ownership is above 15%, the performance will be worse along with the rise of the proportion of government ownership. According to the academic and demonstration analysis above, the author will give proposals about how to resolve the unreasonable problems in bank's ownership structure. Finally, some useful references are putted forward about the joint-stock commercial banks and state-owned commercial banks. |
