Indoctrination theory constitutes an important part of Marxist political and ideological education. This article makes an analysis on the problem of indoctrination from different points of view and develops its argument from four aspects.Firstly, this article takes a trace back to the history of indoctrination theory, illustrating that the theory is a developing theory. Indoctrination theory started by Marx and Engels perfected by Lenin. The Chinese Communists represented by Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin take over the theory and apply it to political and ideological work, developing it into a new stage. Secondly, this article deals with the orientation of the cognition on indoctrination. There are exists different points of view toward indoctrination in our social science world. Some takes a negative attitude, believing the theory is antiquated, others may take a positive attitude, but reach different conclusions about it. This article takes the viewpoint that the disputes originate from the confusion of indoctrination and indoctrination theory therefore, we have to understand indoctrination from both the theory level and the practice level. Third, this article also makes a study on the universality and particularity of indoctrination. The universality of indoctrination reveals that indoctrination exists in any society and in any era. The particularity of indoctrination suggests that in different societies or class indoctrination differs in its subjects, objects, contents, modes and purposes. Indoctrination can be classified as social indoctrination and self---indoctrination from the angle of its subjects, positive indoctrination and negative indoctrination from the angle of its object, integrate indoctrination and isolated indoctrination from the angle of content, one---way indoctrination and two----way indoctrination by its process, direct indoctrination and indirect indoctrination by methods, hard indoctrination and soft indoctrination by techniques. Finally, this article tries to explore how to improve the efficiency of indoctrination in the new era. In our modern era, indoctrination encounters the Coping with these changes, we should pay attention to the following problems: (1) enhancing the competence of the subject. (2) Refining the content of indoctrination (3) exploring new method of indoctrination.
