The Theme Of Times For Peace And Development And The Essence Of Socialism

In the past 20th century, the theme of the times has transformed from then "war and revolution" into present "peace and development" which is the goal pursued by the people all over the world and this theme becomes ever more projecting. At different developing stage of society people has put forward various viewpoints about socialism and raised all kinds of scientific plan and vision for the future society which assumed the guiding thought and theory for the construction of socialism country at different phase and stage. However, the question of"what is the socialism, how to build"is misty and has not been clearly understood by people. After the 3rd session of 11th National People's Congress, Deng Xiaoping, with his clear understanding of the theme of the times, raised the theory of socialism essence. Deng Xiaoping advanced that the essence of socialism is"to liberate and develop productive power, to wipe out exploitation, and to clear up the extremity of wealth so as to achieve the goal of being common well-off,"which fundamentally upgraded people's understanding of and cognition towards socialism and guided the development of socialism.The transformation of the theme of the times has exerted great influence over the realization of socialism essence and provided a good external environment for the development of socialism and favorable development opportunities for the better construction of socialism. Nevertheless, the transformation also brought some unfavorable factors to the socialism construction. The realization of the socialism essence, in return, has strengthened the power and promoted the development of human world as a whole. All in all, the realizing of the socialism essence is a process closely integrated with the theme of the times. To construct socialism in a way of complying with the theme of the times is the right decision and choice.
