The thesis begins with the debate about the general and narrow definitions of trade in services between the developed countries and the developing countries, through the logical analysis on the definition of trade in services. On the above basis, the thesis analyzes the profound economic root and the fundamental points of"the general theory"and"the narrow theory", and it expounds that the legal idea of"the general definition of trade in services"is excellent. Finally, combined with present conditions of the China's trade in services and relative legislations , the thesis puts forwards the suggestion that Chinese legislation of trade in services should be improved under the legal idea of"the general definition of trade in services".The thesis consists of four chapters, and each chapter is relatively independent.The Chapter One introduces the two definition methods of trade in services and summarizes current definitions of all sorts of trade in services in the logic way. And by comparing"the general theory"of develop countries'definition and"the narrow theory"of developing countries'definition, the definition of trade of service in GATS is classified into"the general theory", and is the prominent representative of the idea of"the general definition of trade in services".The Chapter Two expounds the"traits"of trade in services by differentiating trade in goods and trade in services, expounds the"development"of trade in services by the extension of definition, which are both in order to expound that the definition of trade in services can be explained and defined from the points such as connotation, category nature and extension.
