The bloom of regional identity in East Asia has attracted more and more attention. The concept of the region is considered to be formed during the time western forces entered Asia in the last few centuries. Along with the growth of internal cooperation, the East Asian identity blossom again after the East Asian crisis. Accompanying with the fast growth of European and American Regional identity, the East Asian identity has many new implications. It is relatively functional, but not based on the sense of a common root. Due to factors like the global policies of the States, the impact of globalization, the huge difference among East Asian countries and the unstable security and politics problems within the area, the regional identity in East Asia still has a long way to go. Although its existence has generally been accepted, the future of the identity is, however, uncertain. East Asian countries could put more efforts in shaping their demands and pursuing common benefits to better fit into the regional framework. The construction of East Asian institution is especially important in which the powerful countries should play more important roles.
