The Japan policy is one of the most important pillars of ROK's foreign policies, which has a varying process of adjustments from hostility to improvement. The ROK-Japan bilateral relationship is both vital and complicated for each other. However, it seems to be a paradox that ROK bears a feeling of resentment towards Japan in history, but on the other hand, ROK is in need of Japan in reality. And the relations between ROK and Japan often appear contradictory. This thesis makes researches on the ROK Japan policy and the relations between ROK and Japan in the post-cold war period. By combining the theoretical framework related to international relations, with the historical origins of ROK-Japan relations, this thesis analyzes and summarizes the repeatedly adjusted ROK Japan policies and their causes, the changes of the relations between ROK and Japan during different historical periods in the post-cold war period, and several important factors that restrict the development of ROK-Japan bilateral relations. In conclusion, the ROK-Japan relations in the post-cold war are oriented and developed under the influence of history and reality, emotions and interests, bilateral and multilateral factors. The territorial disputes and history problems between ROK and Japan will not be settled in the near future, but the cooperation between the two countries will be the main trend.
