The Yao′s customary law on property inheritance in Pan village, Jinxiu, Guangxi is compatible with Pan Yao′s cultures. It is a tool for regulating local order, a type of norms of behavior, a dynamic "local knowledge". It is much rich, as demonstrated by inheritance time, space, subject, object, marriage, conflicts and other dimensions. Its distinct characteristics are mainly performed in gender equality, staying at home to inherit property for the oldest among sons and daughters, treating natural and adopted in the same way, inheritance from two sides and other features. It is shaped not in an overnight, but through a long historical process. Meanwhile the formation and development derived from many reasons, such as the Pan Yao′s painful history, scarcity of land resources, the living environment of the village, living in relative poverty, Pan Yao's marriage system, Pan Yao's clan descent system. In the course of their history it has played important functions, such as an inter-generational transfer of property and the effective extension of family, cultural implication and heritage, maintaining unity and stability in the community. Nowadays, it also begins to have played a proper role in the building a harmonious socialist new rural areas.After the reform and opening in China, Yao′s customary law on property inheritance in Pan village has taken place a few changes. These changes were from multiple causes, such as an increase in their property, the impact of different ethnic cultures, the wish of economic development, influence of urban civilization, updating of the younger generation concepts. And the article tries to expect the trend of its changes in the future. In the process of building the ethnic group's legal system, as a "small tradition", Pan Yao′s customary law on property inheritance should play an active role in the local legal resources. And it should develop a certain interaction with the national laws, especially ethnic group's laws.
