Ever since the arrival of the 21st century, China is ushering in an "important strategicopportunity period", and the mankind is entering a new era as well. The new era requiresa brand-new concept of world development. The thought of harmonious world is such anew concept of world development with Chinese characteristics, which is put forward inaccordance with the trend of world development and future developing tendency. Bymethods of the following three methods, i.e. theory with practice, analysis with synthesisand the consistency of logic and history, this thesis analyses the thought of harmoniousworld, casts back its theoretical basis as well as clarifies its relationship with peaceful riseand harmonious society, consequently revealing the scientific content of the thought ofharmonious world. Finally, after a detailed analysis of the thought by means of ontology, epistemology, dialectics and historical materialism, the author comes to the conclusionthat the building of a harmonious world should be based on the mutual benefit andwin-win economic mechanism, the mutual trust and consensus political mechanism, andthe interactive and integrative cultural mechanism. As the advocate of harmonious world,China should continue renewing ideas to keep up with the times, strive to be independentand develop itself by all means, thus to take an active part in world affairs and assumemore responsibilities as well as get its proper position in the world. The building of theharmonious world is of great practical value in bidding farewell to the rumor of "Chinathreat" and guiding new diplomatic practice, thus to help the mankind set foot on a newharmonious journey.
