From General Well-Off To Overall Well-Off The Only Road To Chinese-Style Modernization

The well-off society is an ideal society proposed by Chinese ancientthinkers and philosophers. On the basis of inheriting traditional thoughts andculture, Deng Xiaoping endowed the concept of the well-off society with newcontent. He clearly stated that the concept of well-off society is connected withthe "Chinese-style modernization", and described the "Chinese-stylemodernization" with such concepts as "well-off level, well-off state, well-off life,well-to-do family, well-off society and well-off China". As a result of 20 years ofhard work, the "well-off society" of Deng Xiaoping (general well-off) hasbeen transformed from an ideal to a reality. In general, the life of Chinese peoplehas been at the well-off level. Whereas, the general well-off still stays at a lowlevel. There are too many uneven, unbalanced phenomena in our society, whichis only at the primary stage of well-off society. The 16th National Congress of theCPC explicitly set the goal for building an overall well-off society in the first 2decades of this century (at the 16th National Congress of the CPC, PresidentJiang solemnly declared that we need to focus on building a well-off society withhigher standard in an all-round way to benefit over one billion people in thisperiod. We will further develop economy, improve the democratic system,advance science and education, enrich culture, foster social harmony and upgradethe texture of life for the people.). Overall well-off is the higher stage of a well-off society, which is characterized by a higher level, a richer content, and thebenefit of all people. General well-off and overall well-off are two absolutelynecessary stages in the course of building Chinese-style modernization.Developing from general well-off to overall well-off is the choice of Chinese-style modernization.It is a complicated task to do research on the problems of building a well-offsociety, which covers many subjects and needs many materials. So in this paper the author uses document research, theory research and analytical demonstration,analyzes the development of the idea of the well-off society, expounds theconcepts of general well-off and overall well-off thoroughly, and explains theimportance while Chinese-style modernization builds from general well-off tooverall well-off.General well-off has become a historical achievment while overall well-offis the goal for Chinese-style modernization in the new century. Chiha is stilltrudging in modernization, in ongoing course, Chinese people will face manychallenges, problems and contradictions and they need carry through a longstriving trial for consolidating and improving the well-off level our country hasachieved, reach overall well-off and then realize the modernization. It isobvious that there is a historical necessity of the transition from general well-offto overall well-off. It keeps with the situation of our country and the actuality ofbuilding modernization, and conforms to the wishes of the Chinese people andthe transition is of great significance.
