Death penalty, the severest punishment imposed on criminals, is used to deprive the criminals of life. It is not only a matter of great importance to the criminals involved, but also a matter of social stabililty and national governance to a country. With the ideas of freedom , democracy, equality, univeral love and natural rights being widely accepted abroad, people begin to challenge the reasonability and justice of death penalty, leading to a heated discussion over it. China, of couse, can not tear herself away from this discussion.. Whether China needs death penalty or not, whether it should be abolished or not, brutality, cruelty and inhumanity can not at all change its historical fate of being abolished in reality. Against the backdrop of building a harmonious socialist society, material civilization, political civilization and spiritual cilivilization developing to a new heigh, the idea of human-center and life supremacy is governing the whole society. The development of times and society provides us with new horizon to re-evalue the system of death penalty. However, death penalty could not be abolished even in this civilized harmonious society, because the development of civilization hasn't provided prerequisites for its abolition. Restricting death penalty and effectively restricting death penalty are still among the top choices of times. Improvement of legisation, justice civilization and guided public opinion are the goals that effectively limiting death penalty is striving for, as well as the effective ways to restrict death penalty.
