Old age protection has become one of the top priorities of modern social security system. Since the end of the 20th century, the comparatively slow economic growth, high unemployment rate, the worsening aging of the population etc. have produced great pressure on the budget of the welfare states, and brought great impact on the development of the pension system. How to keep the sustainability of the current pension system as well as adequate pension have become the key point of reform and the focus of attention. The more and more serious problem of aging population brings tough challenge to the current retirement security system in our country. In order to deal with the aging population crisis, guarantee the healthy development of the country's economy and the harmonious society, we have to take proper actions to solve problems faced by our retirement security system.In the country's current retirement security system, there are many problems need to be dealt with in each of the three layers of retirement security system. Among the world's retirement security system, the US "three pillars" retirement security system has been recognized as one of the international model. U.S. With two hundred years history, the US retirement security system has gradually formed multi-pillar retirement security system which includes Social Security program, employer-sponsored retirement plan and personal savings retirement plan. On the precondition of carefully consider the problem of China's retirement security system and the situation of current social development, we may properly use the experience of the US retirement security system for reference, and it would be a fresh and effective option of improving our multi-layer retirement security system in the sake of facing the aging population crisis.This thesis consists of seven parts. The first chapter drew an overview on the situation of retirement security system over the world and the significance of this research. The second chapter analyzed the history of US retirement history including the rise, development, adjustment and other changes as well as the relevant regulatory organization. The third, forth, fifth chapter respectively introduced the characteristics, the establishment of conditions, payment mechanism, employees enjoy tax concessions and withdrawals, regulations of each part of three pillars. The sixth chapter introduced the internal integration responsibility share of the three pillars. The last chapter put the situation of US retirement plans and in China together; put forward the feasibility of applying the advantages of retirement plans in US.
