The Hong Kong issue has belonged to Chinese internal affairs since Hong Kong returns to China. But under the policy of "one country,two systems", Hong Kong retains its captalism, and holds close relationship with Capitalist countries, such as Britain and U.S. It also is a special administrative region of China, as Chinese open door. So Hong Kong plays a very special role both on the internal and international stage. Therefore, international socity, especially U.S., take more and more attentions on Hong Kong. This dissertation, probes into the American Hong Kong policy since 1997.The author's view is presented through the three chapters of the text:Chapter 1 is to outline the historical background in which this research unfolds, by briefing on American Hong Kong policy during the period from WW2 to 1997.Chapter 2 presents Sino-U.S. relationship during last 10 years, discusses U.S.' interests in Hong Kong, and deals with American policy toward Hong Kong after its return to China, including its dissatisfaction on Hong Kong democratization, its support for the Democratic Party in Hong Kong, its censure toward Hong Kong' human rights, its maintaining on Hong Kong capitalism, and finaly the change of its Hong Kong policy effected by its diplomatic reform.Chapter 3 discusses the connotation of the principle "one country, two systems", also studies American Hong Kong policy'impact on it.
