The Coordinated Application Of Multilateral Trade System And Regional Trade System

In the new wave of economic globalization, the international trade develops rapidly, as WTO Doha Round of trade negotiations still have no results, the development of multilateral trade system is in difficulty. At the same time, more and more countries which have the similar historical traditions and real interests, become inclined to unite in small scopes, this made regional trade system become vigorous. Under this condition, how to coordinate the relationship between these two systems, in order to get the optimal result, also becomes an important subject that each country has to face. This thesis just take multilateral trade system and regional trade system as study objects, after analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of these two systems, the thesis expound their relations, on this base, further, set forth the coordinated application of them.Besides foreword and conclusion, the thesis includes three chapters:Chapter 1, firstly, talks about the historical origins of multilateral trade system and regional trade system, and reveal their relations by analyzing their different advantages and disadvantages. Then enumerates the reality of the game between the two systems and the problems exist in the process of coordinated application, on this foundations, some approaches to improve these issues are proposed, furthermore, each approach is expounded necessarily.Chapter 2, bases on the comparative study and according to the general principle that from the overall strategy to specific practice, the elaboration is focus on United States and European Union's coordinated application. Not only introduces the overall strategy and creation, but also discusses the specific rules, such as the rules of origin. Further, with respect to the practice in United States and European Union, the thesis makes a necessary review, and gives an outlook about the future.Chapter 3, in view of the present situations of China's participation in these two systems, with the former analysis and the practice in United States and European Union, proposes that China's current overall strategy should be this: take the multilateral trade system as the ultimate goal and regional trade system for the strategic focus, it emphasizes to use two-pronged approach meantime, then elaborates the problems should be noted as well as the method can be taken in practice.
