A Contemporary Interpretation of Thomas Aquinas's Natural LawThis is a piece of dissertation on the contemporary development of Thomas Aquinas's Natural Law.The style of writing is between narrative and discussion.The main points can be descried that the theory of Natural Law should be comprehended in the inquisition to the topic of the essence of law and the kinds of law,which has been developed by Aquinas in his .Last century,the theory of Aquinas won its dignity again and received much esteem with more and more scholars with the rise of Neo-Scholasticism.There are some researches on Aquinas's Natural Law nowadays.These scholars intend to build their theories on the doctrines of Aquinas.However,who hold Aquinas's percepts among these theories actually? The so-called Thomists don't carry through Aquinas's Natural Law,but the New Natural Law theorists who avoid using this label stick to the standpoints of Aquinas.It is really a paradox.The arguments emerge,which would be regarded as the debates on the explanation of the text of Aquinas in the first sight but is concerned with the legitimacy of Catholic doctrines.It is exhibited in this dissertation several theorists explain the Natural Law from the respective of Thomists and the critiques of them against the New Natural Law Theory,as well as the responses of these New Natural Law Theorist and the short comment of the author.Six sections are included:The object,purpose and methodology would be stated in the Introduction.The basic question in the which is the carrier of Aquinas's Natural Law is explained in the first chapter of the main body.The conclusion is that Natural Law is connected with the topic of Essence of Law and the Natural Law is peculiar in his corps of laws.The second section is mainly about the expansions of the contemporary Thomists and the New Natural Law Theorists on Natural Law.The points are discussed in the similar clues.The third section proceeds with the summary of the divergences of these theories and shows the state of the New Natural Law Theory which is undergoing a siege.The responses of the New Natural Law Theory will be presented in the fourth section, where the advantage of this theory will be discovered by return to the text of Aquinas.A few viewpoints on the Aquinas' Natural Law are included in the last section,besides which the author expresses his favor for the doctrines of the New Natural Law Theory.
