The Research Of American Cultural Diplomacy Towards China After The Cold War

Based on national interests,proceeding China's "peaceful evolution" with cultural diplomacy has always been an important component of American foreign policies towards China. According to the United States, the victory over the Cold War"was actually the moral suasion and soft power of Western democratic institutions and practices that won the ideological struggle between the East and the West". Therefore, the United States continued to pay more attention to the use of cultural diplomacy, with the goal of"winning without fighting". However, because of the dramatic changes of international politics and economics after the Cold War, there emerged new characteristics of America's cultural diplomacy towards China. Compared with the Cold War era, America's cultural diplomacy towards China after the Cold War has become more confusing and more infiltrating. Its diverse means and subtle tactics has caused some far-reaching impacts towards the long-term development of Sino-US relations and people's values and ways of life in China, which deserve researchers'attentions. In this thesis, with the intention of understanding the United States'diplomacy system towards China, we clarified related concepts, examined foreign policies of the US government from1989, and analyzed the characteristics and impacts of its cultural policies towards China.
