The collapse of the Soviet Union had brought two results. On the one hand, Ukraine gains independency, making the dream of establishing their own nation for several generations come ture. On the other hand, Russia hurts badly, and becomes a second-rate country of the international community. Although Russia and Ukraine become two independent countries, their contact formed in hundreds of years can't go to an end. Neither Ukraine nor Russia can leave without each other. Today's Russia can't parallel with the Soviet Union, but it has been working to pursue national renaissance and the rise of country, which is considered by the United States the biggest challenge of its"one super-hegemony'status in the world. The CIS is Russia's important support to restore its worldwide great power status. As the second largest country of the CIS, Ukraine's internal affairs and diplomacy changes both have a far-reaching impact on the development of the CIS. The"special relationship"between the two countries together with Ukraine's important strategic position, decides that Ukraine plays a key role in the re-emergence of Russia. Therefore, Ukraine became America's key object to lasso in order to beat Russia. At the end of 2004,"Orange Revolution"that shocked the world took place in Ukraine. Pro-US opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko defeated pro-Russia Prime Minister Yanukovich, and was elected the new president. The"Orange Revolution"occurred closely to Russia and the United States. It's not only their new round contest, but also the product of their long-term bout. Take the"Orange Revolution"for breakthrough point, this paper dissertates detailedly Ukraine's important and strategic position in the international politics and military, as well as its historical relationship with Russia. Then, through using large number of factual datum, it focuses on revealing Russia and the United States'variety of strategies and means to push in power the presidential candidates who are beneficial to them. Finally, on the base of analyzing the development of Russia-Ukraine and US-Ukraine relationships after the"Orange Revolution", this paper attempts to explore Russia and the United States'long-term strategic objectives and recent policies, and look forward to the future relationships of the three.
