Language researchers and language teachers found that language learning strategy is one of the most important factors in the second language acquisition. The second language learning strategy is a kind of methods or behaviors that the students employed to improve the learning efficiency in the learning process, and made the learning more success, active, and pleasant. In English learning process, reading strategies as an important part of the learning strategies become one of the most methods for students to learn English. Improving the students'English reading ability has been an important task of English teaching and also a tough task in senior high schools. Under the situation like this, the thesis carried out an empirical research on the English reading strategies, to discuss some hotspot issue and concluded some corresponding results.For carrying out the empirical research, this thesis employed the questionnaire, the interview and the reading test. The subject is 100 students were randomly chosen by the author in a high school of Heze city, and these students were divided into two groups though the achievement they got in the previous tests. The thesis will discuss some questions as following:1. What is the overall situation of English reading strategies employed by the senior high school students?2. What are the differences of reading strategies used by high-score students and low-score students in reading achievement test?3. What are the relationships between reading strategies and reading achievement test score?Though the study, the data collection and result analysis, we could draw a conclusion as below:1. Most senior highs got a relatively low proficiency in reading strategy employment, and lacked of initiative.2. Good readers'and poor readers had a significant difference both in quantity and quality in employing English reading strategy, and the good learners obviously did better than the poor readers.3. The usage of reading strategies has a positive correlation with scores. At last, the thesis puts forward some suggestions for teaching the English reading strategy:1. In the reading teaching, the students'reading strategies used should be given more attention.2. In the reading strategies training process, students'awareness of reading strategy use should be emphasized.3. Taking the reading strategies into the English teaching, encourage the students to employ the reading strategies.This thesis contains 5 chapters, introduction, literature review, methodology, data collection and analysis, conclusion and implications.
