Owing to the long-term importance attached by the CPC and the Chinese government, ideological and political education in colleges and universities has made considerable progress. However, there are still many disadvantages yet to be improved. Successful mental health education lies in a specific-targeted, effective and accurate-orientated guidance, while the current situation is far from satisfactory, especially the function of the sector, which is inaccurate, restrains the development of ideological and mental health education in colleges and universities. Thus, a proper comprehension as well as better operation of health education plays a significant and indispensable role in the effective implementation of ideological and political education and it also has important practical and instructive meanings.The study was designed through the use of questionnaires, documents reading, theory analyses and other research methods, aiming at the through research of the role mental health education plays in ideological and political education and better methods of applying it.The relationship between mental health education and ideological and political education is always discussed as a hot spot in education is the basis and premise of ideological and political education, which promotes an effective and specific-targeted ideological and political education.What is more, the mental health education enriches the content of ideological and political education, broadening the ideological and political field of education. Consequently, we should place more emphasis on mental health education and take better advantage of the role it plays in the education.
