Writing plays more and more important role in English teaching in the last decades, which draws the attention of numerous researchers and teachers. Because of its importance, a series of effective approaches to the teaching of writing have been formed, among which the process approach has become prevalent in many foreign countries and proved effective in improving EFL students' writing abilities. But in China, especially in senior middle schools, English writing is always neglected and little has been done to improve the worrying situation. Most teachers focus their attention on the products of writing, and ignore the process of writing. As a result, writing is inevitably seen as a tedious chore for all involved. And many students are gradually losing their interest and confidence in English writing, some of whom even desperately avoid English writing tasks.According to the above found, the author put forward the Process writing in the English writing teaching. The Process writing is based on the traditional "product teaching" and transfers to the study which is fixed on the students'interest and groups'cooperation.Contrast experiment method is adopted in the research. Students of two mixed-ability classes in Senior Two are randomly arranged in the study. One class is used as the experimental, the Process writing, the other is referred to as the contrast, the traditional product approach adopted. The experiment has been almost half of the year. The experiment results are as follows:The experiment proves process-oriented approach is more effective than product-oriented approach in improving the students' writing ability. Applying process-oriented approach mobilizes students'enthusiasm greatly and makes students take active in writing process and inspires their interests in writing. Through their feedback and revising each other, students understand the writing essential and enjoy the writing pleasure and improve their ability of cognize, inspection, alternation and writing. Meantime, they have also grasped some writing skills and strategies.
