During the early days in the table tennis, the chopping style was the most popular and powerful, with chopping players receiving brilliant results. However, with the emergence of the sponge bat and loop drive technology, the offensive technology has got rapid development, loop drive with low arc and huge loop momentum have appeared in our sight, it highly reduced the effectiveness of the chopping style, and brought unprecedented difficulties to the chopping style as well.In today's game of table tennis, loop drive based on both sides developed by the European players is considered the most advanced style of play, representing the development trend in today's world, while the chopping style is fading out of people's attention. As the world of table tennis technology continuously to evolve the horizontal racket offensive method continuously improving, with the rules continuously changing, the studies for the game have become imminent. This paper gives a review of the history for the chopping style, and with the software "table tennis technical and tactical data acquisition and analysis system"developed by Shanghai Institute of Physical Education,we have analyzed the tactics for the highly skilled table tennis players Joo Se Hyuk and Kim Kyung Ah for eight of their international games, and have retrieved the following conclusions and suggestions from them.Joo Se Hyuk stands near the table, chopping on the high point, with a low arc, large angle, and high speed. He has great offensive ability, with a vast variety of offensive method, not only is he an expert in chopping and rubbing in the counterattacks, but has a good serve along with a strong third ball attack as well. But he is still lacking in changes in his techniques and is not very good dealing with arcs.Kim Kyung Ah stand both close-up to the table or in a distance, chopping in the early stages as the ball drops, she plays using low arcs, few mistakes and with good rotation changes turning between her forehand and backhand. But she is lacking in her offensive capability, not cutting by turn with "soliciting" a board, rarely attacks, unless it is a clear opportunity.Kim Kyung Ah has a strong backhand chopping rotation capability, and is relatively stable, but her offensive is relatively poor, and lacks of rationality facing backspin balls. They have their own characteristics in serve and return when it comes to serve techniques. These two players have received great progress in inheriting the chopping style.Joo Se Hyuk has a strong forehand capability, and is able to loop and drive continuously; his forehand has great offensive ability, from both near and far from the table. The continuous strength of the pull is not too strong, but is commendable. He has excellent footwork, and is able to run around the whole table, and attack using his loop drive from anywhere on the table. The method Kim Kyung Ah uses to defeat her opponents is by chopping, she is very stable, especially on her backhand side. Her mastery of long pips is very prominent among female players. She can take the initiative to increase the spin, and can also carry out some non-diversion,with the top large plate capacity.Based on the chopping research,I put forward my own proposals for chopping players. For examples, chopping players should enhance their serves more, improve the resilience of returning serves, strengthen the rotation of the ball and placement,do additional training on counterattacking, combine the defense using both topspin and backspin, improve the ability of backhand offense develop the capacity of counterattack and anti-drive during rallies,to really establish a reasonable strong system for both offense and defense.
