The theory of the Task-based Language Teaching(TBLT) has been an influential language teaching and learning theory since 1980s. It emphasizes "Learning by Doing", which turns the basic concept of language use into practical class teaching method. For the new English course standard of high schools, the Department of Education of the People's Republic of China lately points out(2003:25):(We should) promote task-based teaching; cultivate the ability of comprehensive language use in the process of teaching; advocate the learning method of experiencing, practising, participating, communicating and cooperating. Teachers' task is to make the students realize success and we should stress that students can learn Eenglish by doing things in the task-based teaching model, which is contrastive to the practice of teaching method of the impartation of the knowledge in the traditional teaching model.Writing is a consecutive process to communicate ideas and sensation in search of the best effective language learning. However, in the traditional writing teaching process, writing drills only focus on products. The teaching pattern is like that:the teacher decides on a title-students compose-the teacher accesses compositions. Most students'writing competence is very poor, and they have poor sense of language. Contents of their writings deviate real life, and lack authenticity and students lack motivation; teachers usually only focus on grammatical accuracy and attach importance to the result of writing, but neglect the writing process. As a result, the teaching result is very unsatisfactory.So the author of the thesis first expounds the task-based teaching theory, the relevant researches at home and abroad. Then the thesis elaborates the task-based teaching methods in English writing. In the end, it describes intergated task-based teaching principles and provides several samples of how to perform task-based instructions in English writing class. The author has practised the task-based language teaching in the school where she works for ten months, and has made analysis of the experiments to prove that task-based lauguage teaching is effective in English writing.
