Academic social comparison is a cognitive evaluation process that the individual compared with other students to form their own academic performance in all aspects related to their academic ability and level in the academic. In this study, it explore the relationship between academic social comparison and learning engagement, examine psychological characteristics of students and analysis the reasons of poor students from of the junior high school students. The reasons provide theoretical guidance of development of junior high school students'learning ability, and put forward reasonable proposals to carry out psychological counseling of junior high school students, expanding the areas of social comparison.This study selected two junior high schools in Kaifeng City, a total of 450 subjects, 426 subjects effectively. It survey academic social comparison and learning engagement of junior high use of questionnaire, to study the development characteristics of academic social comparison and learning engagement and the relationship between the two in the junior high school students. The reason analyzes the data use variance analysis and multiple regression analysis, the following conclusions:First, the junior high school students have a gender differences in academic social comparison, and the difference reached a significant level. Grade main effect of self-improvement and upward comparison in the difference factors were significantly, the first grade scored significantly higher than the second and third grades; gender main effect of the factor in the downward comparison significant differences, boys are more ways to use downward comparison.Second, the junior high school students have a gender differences in learning engagement, but gender differences were not significant. Main effect of gender into all factors of learning difference was not significant; Grade main effect of the factor in the energy and dedication significant difference.Third, parallel comparison, downward comparison factor in predicting the learning engagement of junior high school students was not significant; Upward comparison can be very significant positive predictive energy, dedication and focus; Self-deprecating can be very significant negative contribution to the forecast, predict significantly more energy, focus significantly predicted; Self-improvement can be very significant positive predictive energy, dedication and attention; Comparison of orientation can be very significant negative predictor of activity, significantly predicted concentration. Educators should pay attention to the value of its growth and development of junior high school studies'academic social comparison, according to the different characteristics of the students targeted guidance, and investment in-depth analysis of student learning engagement, to treat specific issues in order to more effectively improve student learning engagement.
