Since the issued Criteria for English Syllabus in Common High Schools (trial version) in 2001, the majority of middle schools'teachers had many useful discoveries, but also made considerable achievements, through the analysis and discussion on shortcomings of English reading for the past. But application of the Linguistic knowledge in the teaching has not been paid sufficient attention.This research thesis is divided into five major parts. First of all, the author illustrated the research process of the study, doing a relevant overview of the study purpose, then to reflect the significance of theoretical and practical aspects, finally made brief introduction of research methods. In the second part of thesis, the author firstly described with literature analysis on the development of literature material concerned with Relevance Theory, in purpose of systemically organizing the developmental history of the term, at the same time to define the relevant concepts, focuses on the core of this theory point of view, clearly to demonstrate theoretical ideas. Thirdly, through the real practice of English reading instruction, the author not only summed up the basic principles of relevance theory in application, but also interpreted the actual teaching process concerning words, sentences, paragraphs, chapters, authors through various kinds of questions, which are also the five basic levels of related theories. Furthermore, making data statistics on various tests and questionnaires and applying with objective statistics, the thesis has proved this effect of cultivating and improving students reading strategies, comprehensive language proficiency, ultimately to explore the dynamic interface between data and theory. Last but not least, the thesis focused on making suggestion to teachers'instructional practice, but also designed a goal for training students on reading strategies, finally to make balance between teaching methods and effective implementation of Relevance Theory. At the end of the study, in order to improve the meticulous nature of the study, it also detailed the limitations of this study theory, as well as instructional practice, further for indicating the direction of future research.In short, with the development of English linguistics, the emerging of various theoretical research results brought out great influence on precious instructional model, additionally for new curriculum reform. Thus the author combined basic theories of education into Relevance Theory of English linguistics, attempting to make assessment and analysis on English reading instruction of high school, which had a certain necessity and reality. In addition, the author not only based on reading different kinds of questions, but also designed different teaching strategies, clearly showing a correlation theory to guide the teaching process. It also significantly advanced the theory in the teaching practice, effectively improves the usefulness of this theory. In various kinds of teaching situations, teachers attempt to make much more continuous reflection and exploration, in purpose of cultivating comprehensive reading skills of students, especially of regarding relevance theory as a truly core idea.
