In recent decades, with the rapid development of higher vocational education in China, non-governmental higher vocational education grows quickly, which has made great contributions to our education career. It has become the focus of social concern. As a new form of physical education, teaching for PE elective courses has seen its vigorous development in colleges and universities in Hebei province in recent years. Volleyball elective course, as one part of PE elective course, made a significant contribution to the development of college physical education. However, due to various reasons, volleyball elective course is facing difficulties in private vocational colleges. These reasons are the decline of students' interest in learning volleyball, the decline of teaching quality for volleyball, the shortage of volleyball venues and equipment, the obsoletion of teaching mode and teaching methods, etc. Based on the Compendium of National College PE Curriculum and the education feature of private vocational colleges in Hebei province, this thesis analyses the present situation of volleyball elective course from the perspective of the reform of PE teaching and then puts forward appropriate countermeasures and suggestions.Based on the situation of the teaching of PE selective course and the relevant knowledge about pedagogy and Physical Education, with the development of volleyball selective course in 15 private vocational colleges as investigation objects, this thesis uses the research methods of documentary data, interview, questionnaire, and statistical methods, to analyse and discuss teaching guidelines, teaching contents, teaching methods, teaching modes, teaching means, teaching evaluation, teachers' education and students' different aspects. From these analysis, this thesis discovers factors restricting its development and then puts forward some suggestions and countermeasures to promote the better development of volleyball elective course in private higher vocational colleges of Hebei province. The results of the study indicate that:1. Influenced by various factors, volleyball elective course in most private vocational colleges is not perfect, including few sports items, students' reluctance in selecting volleyballs, and low enthusiasm for volleyball.2. Most teachers are able to write lesson plans on time, prepare for lessons and give lessons based on their own teaching guidelines. And students can be present on time and teachers win the claim from their students.3. Much more attention has been paid to athletics not to its theory in teaching volleyball selective cources. Besides, teachers lack innovation in teaching methods. Most teachers adopt duck-stuffing methods and means in their teaching, thus lack interaction with students.4. Teaching evaluation is conventional. Most colleges fail to refer to the situation of students' learning progress in evaluating their teaching.5. Students' interest in volleyball selective courses grows but few students take part in volleyball exercises in their spare time.6. The relative shortage of equipment, college leaders' less attention and the unreasonable utilization of teaching resources are the major factors restricting the development of volleyball selective course in private vocational colleges. This thesis presents an objective analysis and evaluation of the development of private vocational colleges in Hebei province by studying its present situation and the features of private vocational colleges in Hebei province. The aim of this thesis is to promote the healthy development of volleyball activities carried out in private high vocational colleges.
