2009 Asian Championships Tactics Of Chinese Women Volleyball Team

Nowadays, competitive volleyball places emphasis on teamwork, techniques and strategy. Teams from every country are searching ways to raise their levels on the mentioned factors and their application. Modern volleyball requires physical height and mental quickness. Then one can solidify them with good fundamentals and all round skills to build a system. Studying volleyball strategy is significant in both theoretical and realistic sense to the development of the sport in this country.The 15th Asian Women's Volleyball Championship took place in Hanoi, Vietnam through Sept. 5-Sept. 13, 2009. After 9 days of heated competitions, the Chinese emerged as the first runner-up with a record of 6 wins and 1 loss. Underdog team Thailand came out on top as the eventual winner while the Japanese team placed third and the Korean placed fourth. In the group competition, second stage and the quarter finals, the Chinese team went undefeated against Kazakstan, Hong Kong, Iran, Vietnam and Chinese Taipei. China then out performed Korea and beat them 3:1 in the semi-finals. During the final against Thailand, China allowed her opponents a comeback after winning the first game (25:20, 19:25, 19:25. 23:25). This is second time that China missed the gold medal after 2007. On the other hand, Team Thailand achieved a historical breakthrough by breaking the monopolization of championship between China and Japan, and became the new number one in Asia.This article use of literature,video observation,expert interviews, statistics analysis,comparative analysis and other research methods,it will first explain the international studies on techniques, tactics and strategy. Then an analysis will be made based on the statistic of the Chinese team against other teams during the tournament. Hence, a conclusion can be reached on the technical and tactical aspects of the team and its strength and weaknesses. For the future training, suggestions and remedies will be made as to provide further development with a theoretical background. The Chinese Women's Volleyball team should solidify their traditional strength and improve on their weaknesses. A new character will be established under the new circumstances. The results show that:The serves of Chinese volleyball are packed with a fair amount of punches. Placement and effectiveness are above average. However there are also plenty of misses. Consistency and rate of success leave much room for improvement. First pass to setter lacks steadiness due to slow footwork. Hits are better comparatively. Coupled with fast changes in tactics, offense scores a lot of points. Blocking needs much improvement for adjustment and steadiness are lacking, which make their defensive position particularly passive. As the initial offense is in good pace, the attack system is unique.
