Bodybuilding is a training process for people to enhance physical fitness, strengthen muscles, be in good shape and maintain good physical and mental h ealth. It involves unarmed or equipped systematic training methods that based on physiological functions and anatomical characteristics of human and are in a ccordance with scientific principles of bodybuilding. It is a sport that not only shows health, power and beauty, but also shows the combination of strength a nd beauty and a merge of inner beauty and outer beauty. It is a new direction of physical education. For sports, there is the need to develop certain group of muscles to satisf y the need of the particular kind of sport. Although bodybuilding focus on diff erently on muscle mass from other sports, it is for the purpose of fully develo p the physique to reach the harmony of coordination, maximization, sharpness and resolution of muscles. A good body builder has to maximize muscle hyper trophy as well as maintain a harmony of proportion of muscles. Only by doin g so can an overall symmetry of visual effects and good performance in comp etitions be reached.Thigh muscle group is the largest and most powerful body muscles. Almo st all sports require the involvement of this group of muscles. Sports such as baseball, golf, discus, shot put, boxing etc. require the tense of this group of muscles to lead other related movements. Most powerbased sports, e.g. snatchin g, clean and jerk, deadlift and Olympic weightlifting, require large involvement of the leg muscles. However, there is not any type of sports that have a high er demand for leg muscles as bodybuilding. In bodybuilding competitions, refer ees mainly grade on a competitor's shoulders, chest, arms and back for the up per part of the body and quadriceps and biceps femoris for the lower part. Thi gh muscle group is the largest group of body muscles which constitutes an im portant part of human body.In China, most of the best bodybuilders reach satisfactory results on upper part of the body through systematic training. However, the development and s hape of leg muscles are far from satisfaction. These are due to the following r easons:1. High difficulty level of training leg muscles; 2. Inappropriate trainin g methods; 3. Fear of injuries. Many bodybuilders are not able to stimulate th e depth of muscle fiber which makes it difficult to achieve the desired training result. In order to achieve higher competitive level, fitness coaches and athlete s need to master the principle of operation of the muscles and the whole body system together with appropriate scientific training. Thus, finding scientific an d effective training methods to develop leg muscles and balance the developme nt of leg muscles is a particularly important problem that yet to be solved urg ently by Chinese fitness coaches and athletes. The research abroad on bodybuil ding has currently focused more on research within human body as more resea rches showed that bodybuilding is not only an independent sport event but also a complete training system. Leg relative trainings are also the basic of trainin gs for most competitive sports. Researchers are trying to start with the effect o f bodybuilding on human body on the purpose of letting bodybuilding serve th e need of other sports. The technique related to leg trainings is the fundament al to most sports. The research in this area has already reached a high level e specially in the field of nutrition and protection after trainings. At present, the research on bodybuilding technique in China is still immature and there is bias in understanding of some bodybuilding concepts which may have a negative i mpact on the competition results of Chinese bodybuilders. Thus, greater efforts on the theoretical research especially the research on leg training are needed i n our country. This paper is trying to seek more appropriate training methods for Chine se bodybuilders by summarizing the most advanced theories at home and abroa d together with author's practical knowledge. The purpose of this paper is to f urther develop the bodybuilding training system in our country and provide so me reference for coaches and athletes on the training of leg muscles.
