| School buildings and space are the groundwork of educational functions in school. They are also the important hidden influencing factor for the students' growth process in school daily life. This paper attempts to describe a brief historical context about the changing progress of school buildings and space; it analyzes the characteristics and causes of formation in modern school. This paper shows the interaction between students and teachers in the school buildings and space; it reveals the existing problems about design and distribution of buildings in modern school buildings. Finally, it gives some advice on creating new buildings and space which are not only "in school" but also "of school" from the pedagogical perspective.This paper mainly includes the following four parts:The first part combed that the school buildings had transformed from the pre-modern to modern. According to the comparison between pre-modern schools and modern schools, showing that the school buildings have been tending to be more specialized and standardized. Meanwhile, by describing the change of the school buildings and space, the fluxion of the education in the status and function of social development were also reflected.The second part is aimed at discussing the inscape of modern school buildings and space as well as its layout characteristics. By analyzing the inscape of classrooms, playground, walls etc, revealing many special metaphors that included in the modern schools which are made up by these inscapes, these do influence people's imagination of schools. It also points out the cover of the functions of the schools and the hazards to the development process of individual life by means of analyzing the trend and causes of the industrial, segmental and enclosed of school spatial distribution.In part three, the author tries to expound "the control" and "the revolt" on the basis of the school buildings and space from the point of the interaction between students and teachers. The function and orientation of the modernism school buildings and space take the lead in order. Teachers also have various kinds of control strategies in the use of space. While, "control" and "revolt" between students and teachers are related to the buildings and space. As a result of this, the relationship between students and teachers will be affected, in the end students will be the "victims".The main purpose of the fourth part is to assess the school buildings and space from the pedagogical perspective. After expounding the connotation of pedagogical perspective, the author analyzes the problems that were produced by the lack of the pedagogical perspective in the designing and using of school buildings and space. Then the author also attempts to seek some possible ways to create new buildings and space which are not only "in school" but also "of school" from the standpoint of life, practice and opening. They are also the possible ways for us to make school buildings and space promote the life growing and enhance the function of education. |
