Speaking, as one of the four basic language skills of English learning, plays an important role in English teaching in China. In recent years, studies on teaching spoken English have drawn intense attention form both linguists and teachers. However, the main problems of oral English teaching in senior high schools are still obvious such as lack of assessment mechanism, overuse of Chinese in teaching and too much teacher-centered teaching. Therefore, the author puts forward the method of using Drama in Education to teach oral English effectively, for drama has been used for many years around the world to eliminate the gap between the class teaching and the real life situations and help the students to learn physically, intellectually, emotionally, independently and socially to some extent.The goal of this thesis is to find out the possibility and effectiveness of using Drama in Education to teach oral English. After analyzing the problems in oral English learning in high schools such as paying little attention to intonation, thinking in Chinese, lacking confidence, being anxious, and showing little interest according to a survey, the author applies various drama activities to daily oral English teaching and extracurricular oral English teaching to solve these problems.The practical significance of this thesis expresses itself mainly in two ways. Firstly, it is the exploration in the field of oral English teaching and it provides teachers with various practical drama activities as examples of how to apply Drama in Education to teach oral English. Besides, Drama in Education proves to be effective to teach oral English, for it can improve speaking skills, arouse students'interest and help them to be more confident in speaking English after the implementation of the research study. |
