In table tennis matches, players select and adjust their positions to stroke, according to the opponent's technical and tactical characteristics and the placement, the rotation of the ball. But table tennis is an ever changing event. This study focuses on the rule and character of stroke position among elite table tennis players in table tennis games.Table tennis players spatial stroke position is horizontally divided into over the table, short court, middle court, and back court; vertically left half court, middle court backhand, middle court forehand, and right half court; and based on the players stoke position, the spatial stroke position is divided into backhand, sideways, forehand, and anti-sideways.Through the analysis and statistics of spatial stroke position by a study of thirty internal and international matches(including World Championships, World Cup, ITTF Pro Tour, Asian Games, National Game, Table Tennis Super League)of current world top twenty men and women players, who are right-handed, attacking, and using double inverted rubber, a conclusion has been drawn as following.1. An analysis of the men's and women's stroke statistics illustrates that in women's match each point remains more strokes than it does in men's team.2. Service is subjective not restricted, so service is not calculated in the short court positions in this study. The statistics and analysis show the overall characteristics of men's and women's spatial position; in short court, left half court and backhand, the number of stroke tops the ranking list.3. The vertical analysis indicates that the largest number has taken place in short court in both men's and women's matches. Here is the stroke ranking list: short court>over the table>middle court>back court.4. The horizontal analyzing result shows a slight difference between men's match and women's match. The difference shows in the stroke ranking list: In men's match: left half court> middle court backhand>right half court>middle court forehand; in women's team: left half court>middle court backhand>middle court forehand>right court.5. Vertically speaking, there are two differences between men's and women's matches. First, stroke takes place in every vertical position of men's match, but not in the back court and the middle court forehand of women's match; second, in men's match the stroke number of over the table is larger than that in women's match, which indicates that the over the table technique is less used and changed in women's match.6. In men's and women's matches, the result appears the same in the analysis of different spatial stroke positions. Following is the stroke ranking list: backhand>forehand>sideways>anti-sideways.7. Since service is not restricted, it is discussed individually in table tennis technique system. In men's and women's matches, the general characteristic of service spatial position is that athlete stands in left half court and sideways. Thus this standing is still the athlete's fist choice when serving.8. In service ace and missed service, service ace takes place in men's match more often, and missed service in women's match.9. Score's gained and lost varies from different spatial positions. Following is its average ranking list in men's and women's matches: short court, left half court, backhand. This list is corresponding with the spatial position of the largest stroke number.10. The vertical scores ranking list of men's and women's matches is the same: short court>over the table> middle court>back court. This list is corresponding with the number distributed in vertical spatial position.11. Following is the horizontal spatial position scores ranking list of men's match: left half court >middle court backhand>right half court>middle court right hand; the women's match: left half court>middle court backhand>middle court forehand>right half. This list is corresponding with the number distributed in horizontal spatial position.12. Vertical spatial position ranking list is as following. In men's match: short court>middle court>over the table>back court; in women's match: short court>over the table>middle court>back court. This result illustrates that more score has been lost in middle court than that in short court.13. In horizontal spatial positions, men's match and women's match share the same ranking list in score loss: left half court>right half court>middle court backhand>middle court forehand. The result states though there are less strokes in right half court, relatively speaking, more score has been lost.
