The principles of the higher education are philosophical viewpoints and ideal assumptions formed after reflecting on its practices. As the results of the practices of the higher education, those principles function to promote the development of the higher education, to some extents, they play a decisive role to its future trends. In this sense, it is very valuable to carry out relative research into those both in theories and practice.The whole paper consists of three parts. Part one is the analyses and definitions of the fundamental concepts of the principles of the higher education, and in this part the author also inquires into the reasons of the principles of the higher education. Part Two is the enumeration of five main principles of that field that are built upon the diagnostic fractionizing of the principles and the detailed analyzing of its contemporary characteristics and directions: The extent of education scope and the emphasis on education qualifies, innovations and quality education, diversification and individuality, socialization and internationalization an well as regarding human interest. Part three is an ethical arguments based on the Analyses of the values and reasonableness of the principles of the higher education in contemporary China.The author argues firstly in the conclusion that the main principles of the higher education are the revelation of its own essence of striving to be true, good and beautiful, which one hand regard the education equality and social injustice as its ultimate aims, on the other they help to accelerate the harmonies between the society, people and nature, and in the end they help to realize the all-round development of people, secondly, the author hold that, just for the fact that the principles are advanced in accordance with the requirements of social developments, they will help to move the development of the higher education towards a favorable course and to further the realization of educational essence at last. And thirdly, for the realistic reasonableness and practical value of those principles, the author concludes that the understanding and putting into practice of those main principle will make the Chinese higher education operate in a sustainable and healthy way.
