For a long time, Middle School teaching has accepted and practiced the teaching method which was based on the theory of structuralism. It emphasized the cognition in the structure. Knowledge such as vocabulary, phrases, grammatical rules and so on is paid too much attention to. While the cultural background of the target language is ignored. As a result, the students who have learned English for many years often made mistakes in the communication because of the lack of culture differences between two languages.It is well known that the accurate use of language is related to the knowledge of culture. The linguistic research proved that the language contains all the experiences of the national social life which reflects the characteristic of culture. Thus, the language and the use of language can not exist without culture. Just as Brown pointed out "Language, the means for communication among members of a culture is the most visible and available expression of that culture, cultural patterns, customs and what of life( Brown,1994:170)." So it's impossible for us to master a foreign language without learning its culture. The knowledge of language and the training of basic techniques should be put into the background of its culture so that the students can obtain the ability of language application.With the development of reformation of English teaching, the acculturation and cultural awareness has drawn much attention to. What's more, a lot of experts undertook researches and published works and articles on these, most of which are related to language and culture learning. Among these works and articles, very few are concerned on how to develop middle school students' intercultural awarenessaccording to New Curriculum Requirements. Therefore, this paper intends to make research on how to develop the students' intercultural awareness and set up the students' sensitivity of culture learning, try to overcome the astonishment and set up the agreement towards the target language in the real and virtual context.This paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter deals with the relationship between language, communication and culture. The inseparable relationship definitely showed the necessity of culture education in English teaching.The second chapter compares the differences between syllabus and The New Curriculum Requirements on intercultural awareness. The differences show us that the importance of development of intercultural awareness has been realized by people.The third chapter offers some suggestions on how to develop the students' intercultural awareness as the following:!. Evoke the culture awareness with textbooks, transfers the cultural background knowledge in class, improve the students' ability of intercultural communication in daily life. 2.Renew the teacher's concepts on evaluation including its evaluation function, target and content. 3.Get clear understanding of the relationship between the students and curriculum. Pay attention to develop the students' subjectivity and the factors of non-intelligence to respect the individual differences.The forth chapter points out the steps on how to develop the intercultural awareness in detail: 1. In order to realize "learning by doing", make the students use the language by active recreated textbooks and task-based learning. 2.Build up a abundant education environment, innovate the working style, take the advantages of computer-based education, collect the culture resources in social practise.3.Proposea study style based on "Active participation, Enjoyable research and cooperation, "in order to develop the students' initiation and sensibility on culture awareness.The fifth chapter points out two problems in focus. The first one is the teachers' standards of culture should be taken into the consideration when the textbooks are readjusted.
