This paper lays emphasis on basic category lexicons, the underlying link between the polysemy of words, the metaphorical meaning of words and the theory of cognitive semantics with the purpose of revealing the cognitive features of vocabulary teaching in middle schools and seeking a new approach to vocabulary teaching in middle schools that is in keeping with rules of human's cognitive development.
